'Black Panther' Becomes Highest Grossing Superhero Film of All Time in US

Black Panther reached $630 million in earnings on Saturday, flying past the $623.4 million earned by Marvel’s The Avengers in 2012 to become the highest grossing superhero movie ever domestically. Worldwide, Black Panther has earned over $1.2 billion so far. By the end of the weekend, it is expected to surpass Iron Man 3, which earned $1.214 billion, to become the third highest grossing comic book adaptation of all time globally, behind only The Avengers, which earned $1.5 billion,, and its sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned $1.4 billion. Having been made with just a $200 million production budget, the film stands to be one of Marvel’s most profitable ever.

During the Kids’ Choice Awards on Nickelodeon, Marvel Studios unveiled a clip from Avengers: Infinity War showcasing the first meeting between the God of Thunder and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The scene begins with Thor crashing into the Guardians ship and Rocket yelling for them to get him off of the windshield. “Get it off,” he demands, before the gang ultimately pulls the injured man inside. The scene ends with Mantis waking Thor up and him asking who they are as we’ve previously seen.

Noah Hawley’s Dr. Doom movie draws inspiration from The Winter Soldier

“What’s interesting to me about Doom’s character is he’s the king of an Eastern European country and is there a version of this that is more of a political thriller that mixes genre?” Hawley said. “It’s something that [Captain America: The] Winter Soldier did really well, which was kind of make a Cold War thriller movie out of a superhero movie. This is different than that, but it does have this idea of, and I don’t want to say too much about it, but it is a mixture of genres.”
Hawley did make sure to note that his Doctor Doom film is not meant to be viewed as a rebooting of the Fantastic Four franchise, but rather to build a film around a character who’s not been done justice in previous entries.
