MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Passes The Batman With $800M at Box Office

https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/doctor-strange-2-box-office-800-million-pass-batman/

The two biggest box office totals in the pandemic era now belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: No Way Home broke box office records when it was released back in December and now boasts one of biggest theatrical hauls in history. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hasn't quite reached those heights, but it has joined its MCU counterpart in elite company, becoming the second-biggest box office performer since 2020. It also passed this year's other big comic movie hit: The Batman.

This weekend, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness passed $800 million at the global box office. As far as pandemic-era movies go, that's good enough for second overall, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home's $1.89 billion. The weekend saw Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange sequel pass The Batman ($768.5 million) and No Time to Die ($774.3 million).

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Crew Gifts Hint at Major Change to Namor and Atlantis in MCU

https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/black-panther-wakanda-forever-crew-gifts-hint-at-major-change-to-namor-and-atlantis-in-mcu/

Production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapped earlier this spring and while much of the upcoming film remains a mystery, newly revealed wrap gifts for the film's crew may hint at a major change to Namor and Atlantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the weekend, images of the hat and sweatshirt given to the crew that worked on the film were shared on social media with the hat in particular featuring a colorful image that looks a bit like it could be a version of Tepeyollotl, the Aztec jaguar god.

As you can see, the hat in particular features a cat face surrounded by colorful plumage, which is very similar to depictions of Tepeyollotl. It's a really beautiful graphic, but if that is indeed what the graphic is meant to look like, it would bolster the persistent rumor that the MCU's version of Namor will be of Central American origin.

Following the casting of Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta in the film, not only was it widely speculated that the actor would be playing Namor, but that Namor's origin would shift as well. There have also been multiple reports of the film casting for Mesoamerican characters as well as more recent reports that Atlantis will instead be a submerged city in Mexico or Central America. Additionally, promo art that recently popped up online also seems to have some references to Mesoamerican design and culture — the actual image itself is blurry — specifically the collar and armor on the arms and legs. The use of Tepeyollotl on the wrap gift fits into that overall scheme.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will open in theaters November 11th.

On Twitter, the official Deadpool account tweeted an update on the third film. In the caption, the update jokingly notes Deadpool 3 has already "nailed down brand integrations" and will soon move on to "story, character, and script." The image itself shows Peter (Rob Delaney) in the scene where the various members of X-Force were recruited. However, the image has been altered to contain references to a number of brands associated or owned by Reynolds, including Mint Mobile, Aviation Gin and Wrexham FC.

Glorious purpose! The cast and creators of Marvel's Loki stepped out of the Multiverse and onto the red carpet over the weekend, reuniting at an Emmys FYC (For Your Consideration) event in West Hollywood. Disney will submit the Marvel Studios series, starring Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief after the events of Avengers: Endgame, for consideration in the drama categories at the 2022 Primetime Emmys.

Following Marvel Studios' foray into television with original series WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki was the first show to be renewed for a second season on Disney+. Announced in a mid-credits scene aired during the first season finale, Loki Season 2 begins shooting this summer with Hiddleston returning alongside co-stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, and Sophia Di Martino.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed at Disney's upfronts presentation that Loki is the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+, out-performing Hawkeye, What If...?, and Moon Knight. Eric Martin will take over from Waldron as head writer on Loki's second season from Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
